HIGHLAND | The Highland Town Council has accepted two signs that designate Indianapolis Boulevard as part of the Purple Heart Memorial Highway.
The signs say "Purple Heart Trail" and will be installed by the Public Works Department, said John Mateyko, vice commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
He said the designation is merely ceremonial and does not change the highway in anyway. The signs were presented by two Highland residents, Tom Cooper and Frank Garcia.
The "highway" forms a nationwide memorial to honor all American veterans wounded in combat.
