CROWN POINT | A Highland man charged with the attempted murder of a Griffith couple pleaded guilty Tuesday to a lesser charge and agreed to pay the couple $90,000 in restitution.
Court records indicate a Chevrolet Traverse SUV driven at a high speed by Brandon Tomasonni, 28, struck the couple's mo-peds in the early morning hours of May 20, 2009, severely injuring the couple.
In exchange for Tomasonni's guilty plea to failure to stop after an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, prosecutors dismissed charges of multiple counts of attempted murder, aggravated battery and battery.
Tomasonni received a 30-month suspended sentence and agreed to pay $90,000 to the couple with $60,000 payable Tuesday. The remainder is to be paid in 30 monthly payments of $1,000 while Tomasonni is on probation, after which the felony charge would be reduced to a misdemeanor.
