HIGHLAND | The police department is gearing up for its annual “Cops and Kids” program and is asking residents and businesses for cash donations.

The program, which used to be called “Shop With a Cop,” lets needy children go on shopping sprees with Highland officers.

This year’s event is Dec. 1 at the Schererville Walmart, said Highland officer Chris Balbo, secretary of FOP Donald R. Sheppard Lodge 122.

Checks should be made payable to Donald Sheppard Lodge No. 122.

They can be taken in person to the police department at 3333 Ridge Road. They also can be mailed to P.O Box 1743, Highland, IN, 46322.
