HIGHLAND | Highland has approved a reconstruction project for the 3300 block of Condit Street.

The work will involve a new road, curbs and sidewalks. Homeowners will be assessed for sidewalk and curb installation. The cost range is expected to run from $900 to $2,000, said John Bach, public works director.

Rieth-Riley Construction Co., Inc. was awarded a contract for $264,991.80.

Bach said work should begin after July 4 and take about eight weeks.

Bills will go out to the property owners toward the end of construction and they will have 30 days to pay or make an agreement with the town, Bach said.

Residents can also take out private loans, Clerk-Treasurer Michael Griffin said, adding that the town also can make loans.

"We need to be the lender of last resort," Griffin said. "If they need us, we'll do it."

Loans from the town will be for five years with 7.5 percent interest.
