HIGHLAND | The Town Council has voted unanimously to extend its contract with Prompt Ambulance Service.
The contract is a joint agreement with the service that also includes neighboring Munster.
"Munster's going to do it (sign its contract) right away," Clerk-Treasurer Michael Griffin said.
The original contract began in 2004 as a five-year agreement. In 2009, the two towns extended the contract on a three-year basis.
Griffin noted that the original contract called for a maximum of three such extensions.
Under the contract, the towns pay nothing for the joint agreement.
Prompt's current charges to Highland and Munster residents are $625 for advanced life support service; $375 for basic life support; and a $14.50 charge per loaded mile.
