HIGHLAND | Prompt Ambulance, in partnership with the March of Dimes Northwest Indiana Division, kicked off the 2013 March for Babies campaign recently at the Prompt Ambulance Corporate office with a ribbon cutting and party unveiling a brand new Prompt and March of Dimes co-branded ambulance.

The new ambulance will be transporting patients in Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties.

“Prompt Ambulance has been supporting the March of Dimes for over 10 years. We’ve participated in events and help keep March for Babies walkers safe by offering emergency staff and vehicle support for the walks in Northwest Indiana,” said Shar Miller, co-CEO of Prompt Ambulance.

Gary Miller, co-CEO of Prompt Ambulance added, “With this being the 75th anniversary of the March of Dimes, we wanted to do something special. By having this co-branded ambulance, we’ll be able to bring extra exposure to the March of Dimes mission of helping babies be born healthy.”

In addition to the ribbon cutting, attendees received materials to support their fundraising efforts with the March for Babies campaign.

March of Dimes Ambassador Mom Michelle Cherry shared her story as the mother of a premature son.

“Having been a Neonatal Intensive Care nurse for the past 13-½ years, I have had the pleasure of caring for babies and their families, all of whom have benefited from the research from the March of Dimes,” said Cherry. “I myself had a 30-week preemie who spent a month in the NICU. I thank the March of Dimes every day because without them I may not have been blessed with my little guy.”

She also serves on the Northwest Indiana Division Board of the March of Dimes, representing Community Hospital.

The event featured food and beverage donations from Strack & Van Til, Catch 22, Prompt Ambulance and Southlake Limousine Service.

“The March of Dimes is working to reduce the rate of premature birth, the number of babies born with birth defects and to help babies survive and thrive,” said Victor A. Garcia, division director for the March of Dimes. “Thanks to the support of the community and local businesses, the March of Dimes is making progress.”
