HIGHLAND | Hundreds of volunteer showed their support for the troops as Operation Support Our Servicemembers (S.O.S) packed hundreds of boxes to send overseas to the troops at Wicker Park recently.
"I am very impressed and inspired by the number of people who support our troops," said Colleen Aguirre, Operation S.O.S. president. "It's not a question of whether you are for the war or not, it's a question of supporting our young men and women who are sacrificing their lives for our freedom."
Since 2007, Operation S.O.S. has sent thousands of packages overseas, some that have included George Foreman grills, food, DVD's and more.
"We are so grateful to everyone who has sent us items, money for postage and more," said Aguirre. "We are especially impressed with Family Video's commitment as they have donated thousands of movies to send overseas.
S.O.S. was started by a small group of people that were interested in sending care packages overseas to the troops. They formed a board and pursued their non-profit status within two years. They have participated in many fundraisers, worked with local businesses and community leaders to send things to men and women overseas.
