HIGHLAND | A 70-year-old Highland man was robbed of his car and cash at gunpoint Wednesday outside his home, police said.
The man was in his driveway in the 3800 block of Wicker Avenue about 11 a.m. Wednesday when he saw two men just east of his property, police said.
One of the men asked the 70-year-old if he knew the neighbors, mentioning them by name. The man said he did and as he approached the suspect, the suspect pulled out a small, black, semiautomatic pistol and pointed it at the Highland man's head.
The suspect told the man to turn around and go into the garage and lie on his stomach. Police said the suspect took the man's car keys out of his hand and asked for money.
The Highland man said he didn't have any money, but when the second suspect approached him and asked for money, the man said he had cash in his front pocket.
One of the suspects reached into the man's pocket and took a money clip containing $81. A suspect also took the man's wallet and threw it in the garage.
The suspects then took the man's 2011 Gray Ford Explorer and fled east on Wicker Avenue and were last seen turning south on Cline Avenue.
The man was not able to give a full description of the two suspects.
As of Thursday morning, the suspects were still at large, according to Highland police Cmdr. George Georgeff. The vehicle has an Indiana handicapped license plate number of D992V.
Police are asking anyone with information about the crime to call Cmdr. Ralph Potesta at (219) 838-3184.
