Festival of Trees aids NISO

MUNSTER | The Women's Association of the Northwest Indiana Symphony Society hosts its annual Festival of the Trees from 10 a.m. to noon at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster. Lunch is served at noon. A $45 donation is requested; reservations must already have been made. 

Toys go to Children's Hospital

HIGHLAND |  A Ladies Night Holiday Extravaganza  at BAR 41, 8355 Indianapolis Blvd., Highland, will help raise toys to donate to Children's Hospital of Chicago. Toy donations must be brand new, unwrapped and for any age group. Raffle tickets given per each toy donation. It runs from 6 to 9 p.m.

Lights of Life ceremony set

MUNSTER | The Community Hospital holds its Lights of Life ceremony from 6 to 7 p.m. a the hospital, 901 MacArthur Blvd., Entrance B. Each light on the Lights of Life trees at The Community Hospital shines in honor or memory of the special people who light up the lives of others. For every light, a $5 donation has been made to support cancer research. For a $15 donation, a pink breast cancer pin or a lavender cancer awareness pin also can be sent to the honoree. Donors and their honorees are invited to attend the tree-lighting ceremony. Donors can call to receive a form, or visit online and click on Ways to Give to download a donation form. Holiday Heroes are saluted

HAMMOND | The Indiana Welcome Center  hosts a Holiday for Heroes from 5 to 8 p.m. at the center, 7770 Corrine Drive. It honors police, fire, military, EMS, and Hoosier Helpers and includes free photos with Santa, cookies and light refreshments. Present identification for free admittance.

BBB performs holiday concert

HAMMOND | Books, Brushes and Bands for Education Vocal Ensemble and Cadet and Concert Band students invite the public to ring in the holiday season at their "Winter Concert" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Woodmar United Methodist Church, 7320 Northcote Ave., Hammond.


Snowflake Skate takes to ice

MERRILLVILLE | Advance tickets are required for the Snowflake Skate from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Deep River Waterpark. It's for girls 6 and older and their dolls. Tickets are $15 and include admission, skate rental, all activities, pizza, drinks and dessert. Adult tickets are $12 and include admission, skating (if they choose), and food. Tickets remain on sale until Thursday or sold out. It concludes with lunch and a group skate routine. To purchase tickets, call (219) 769-PARK from 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m. weekdays or go to the business office, 8411 E. Lincoln Highway. Tickets also are available at the park when the ice skating plaza is open.

Humane society open house

GARY | The Humane Society of Northwest Indiana hosts its Christmas for the Animals Open House from noon to 4 p.m. at the society, 6100 Melton Road. It offers professional photos of pets and food, drinks, a raffle and door prizes. Call (219) 938-3339.

Toy drive aids St. Jude House

GRIFFITH | The fifth annual St. Jude House Toy Drive for those 21 and older runs from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Sopranos Lounge, 840 S. Broad St., Griffith. There is entertainment starting at 7, including a magic show, comedy show, and live music performed by Nicole Jamrose and The HZ. There will be raffles, 50/50 and drink specials all night long. Visit and search fifth annual St. Jude House Toy Drive to purchase tickets in advance. All toys and money raised go directly to St. Jude House in Crown Point. Handbells help ring in holidays

CROWN POINT | The Harmony Handbells, a local community handbell choir, partners with Northwest Indiana Cancer Kids Foundation to present an evening of holiday handbell music. from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Hillside Community Church, 5201 W. 109th Ave., Crown Point.
