Church sponsors parking lot parties

HAMMOND | Hammond Christian Reformed Church, 1910 - 167th St., is sponsoring parking lot parties this summer. Kids and adults are invited from 6:30 to 8 p.m. It includes a moon walk, games, face painting, hot dogs and chips.


All-American Mile Run steps off

HIGHLAND | The All-American Mile Run steps off at 6:30 p.m. from the corner of 40th Street and Kennedy Avenue. It's a kickoff to Highland's Twlight Independence Day parade and is sponsored by Standard Bank & Trust Co. All participants will receive a dry fit T-shirt. Entry forms are available at the LCC front office. Race day registration will be held at the School Administration building from 5 to 6:15 p.m. The race will be chip timed by T&H Timing and the course is certified. For all ages. New this year is the fastest sub 4-minute mile for males, $250 prize and the fastest sub 4:40 mile for females, a $250 prize. $10 through Tuesday, $15 on race day. AHS throws all 70s class reunion

MERRILLVILLE | The Andrean High School alumni office is sponsoring an All '70s School Class Reunion from 7 p.m. to midnight in the school cafeteria, 5959 Broadway. Admission is free, BYOB. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres, mixers and snacks will be provided. Lots of inter-class competitions planned. Gardens showcased in annual tour

GARY | Garden Sheds, Flower Beds and Fifty Shades of Red is the 14th annual Secret Gardens Tour sponsored by the Miller Garden Club, rain or shine. It's from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Marquette Park Aquatorium is the starting point. Tickets are $10; box lunches available for an extra cost. Bike tours begin at 10:30 a.m. today and Sunday, beginning at Marquette Park Aquatorium. Shuttle service to gardens available until 2 p.m. each day. History speaks in parks program

GARY | The Lake County Parks and Recreation Department hosts it History Speaks Series from 2 to 4 p.m. at Lake Etta Banquet Hall, 4891 W. 29th Ave., Gary. It features performers providing a variety of historical notables. Thomas Paine — The Voice of the American Revolution is presented by Chicago actor R.J. Lindsey. The event includes an afternoon of coffee, tea, punch and cookies following the performance. Tickets are available at the corporate office of the Lake County Parks, 8411 E. Munster concert series continues

MUNSTER | Sponsored by Citizens Financial Bank, Munster Parks and Recreation presents the third in its six-concert series featuring Cirrus Falcon from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Park, 1154 Ridge Road. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held at Munster High School (8808 Columbia Ave.). There is handicap drop-off available at Heritage Park (corner of Ridge Road and Columbia Avenue.
