HIGHLAND | A Highland thrift center's front canopy collapsed under the weight of heavy snow Friday morning, pulling part of the facade from the building and closing a portion of the street.
The Highland Police Department closed the 2800 block of Highway Avenue in front of the Bibles for Missions Thrift Center.
No one was injured in the incident.
Bibles for Missions operates the thrift center through Bible League International out of Crete, with proceeds being used to provide Bibles to Colombia.
Connie Reitsma, director of Bible League International, said managers were inside the thrift center before it was open for business Friday when a canopy collapsed from the weight of the snow and pulled away from the front of the building.
No windows were broken and the roof and windows are intact, she said.
She anticipates it will be about a week before the center is able to reopen.
