Hobart American Legion Post 54 installed new officers for the 2013-14 term last week with a meeting and light refreshments served by Auxiliary Unit 54.

The new officers are: Commander Earl McDowell, 1st Vice Commander Armando Berumen, 2nd Vice Commander David Hill, 3rd Vice Commander John Kolarik, Adjutant Steve Webb, Finance Officer Dwight Murdock, Historian Pat Bowers, Service Officer Martin King, Sergeant-at-Arms Richard Morehouse. The chaplain position remains open.

The installing officer was First District Official Peter Van Woerden and his installing staff.

Post 54 will hold its third annual Outdoor Garage Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Legion parking lot at 208 S. Linda St.

Booth space rentals are $15 each must be paid before space is accepted. Vendors must provide their own table and chairs or rent a table to sell items.

Auxiliary Unit 54 is accepting donations of items to sell. Marine Auxiliary Unit members will sell coffee, donuts, rolls, cupcakes and grilled sandwiches. Contact the bar manager for more details at (219) 947- 2054.

Plant and garden sale

Hobart Garden club will hold its annual Plant and Garden Treasure Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Festival Park, 111 E. Old Ridge Road, Hobart. They will offer perennials, annuals, garden treasures, household items and books.

Golf outing planned

Sign up for the Hobart Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing, set for June 14 at Innsbrook Country Club,  6701 Taft St., Merrillville.

City-wide garage sale

Applications are being taken from Hobart residents for the Hobart City Wide Garage Sale, set for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 18.

Registration is $10 and includes garage sale listing of main items and location, and one yard sign. Hobart residents can pick up a list of participating addresses and main items being sold.

Applications are available at www.cityofhobart.org or in the Special Events office at Hobart City Hall, 414 Main St. Call (219) 942-4511.

Concerts to start

Hobart City Improvement Committee’s summer concert season will start May 30 at the Revelli Band Shell, Festival Park, 111 E. Old Ridge Road. The first concert will feature the Hobart Middle School Jazz Band, from 7 to 8 p.m.,  followed on June 6 with Mary Beabout and songs of the 1940s through 1980s.

Committee members will offer pop, popcorn, and hot dogs for sale.

Art classes offered

Hobart Arts League, 3850 Howard St., is now offering Basic Beginning introduction to art classes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday. Some supplies are included.
