C.P. man, 21, is charged with auto theft and resisting arrest
HOBART | A 21-year-old Crown Point man is accused of stealing a woman's car after she gave him a ride to the U.S. 30 corridor, police said.
Ahmed Said Elshity was charged Monday in Lake Superior Court with auto theft and resisting law enforcement.
Police Detective Jeremy Ogden was called on Feb. 18 to investigate a report of a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo stolen from outside Old Chicago Pizza.
The owner of the car contacted police after she found her stolen vehicle in a Walmart parking lot.
The owner said she knew the man who had stolen her vehicle because she had given him a ride from Hammond to Hobart and he had taken it without her permission.
Elshity tried to run from police, but was arrested.
