HOBART | A 30-year-old Cedar Lake man stole his father's checks, then gave them to friend to cash, police said.
Lucas S. Evans was charged with two counts of theft Monday through Lake Superior Court.
Police were contacted by a Hobart man on Nov. 15 who reported his personal checks had been stolen and cashed, court documents state.
The Hobart man told police he believed the $490 inĀ checks that had been cashed had been stolen by his son, court documents state.
Police spoke to a Schererville man, who identified Evans as the person who provided him the checks to cash on his behalf, court documents state.
The Schererville man said he cashed the checks in Merrillville, Hammond and St. John as a favor to Evans, court documents state.
