HOBART | Four people were arrested at Westfield Southlake mall Sunday after three friends of a shoplifting suspect fought with police and security officers, police said.
Police were called to the mall shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday in connection with a shoplifting suspect who fled from the store, Sgt. Jeremy Ogden said.
The suspect, Kyle C. Galloy, of Lansing, was arrested after he attempted to flee, Ogden said.
A second individual, Amber Van Hoose, 19, of Highland, began yelling profanity and screaming at police as they were arresting Galloy, Ogden said.
Although Officer Steve Aponte asked her to lower her voice, Van Hoose continued to yell and was arrested, Ogden said.
Two other men, including Eugene McCall, 20, of Lansing, and O'Neill Cruz, 19, of Lansing, also began punching and kicking police and security officers while they were attempting to arrest Galloy and Van Hoose.
Cruz, who continued to fight police, was Tasered, Ogden said.
Galloy was charged in Lake Superior Court with conversion, resisting law enforcement by flight and battery on law enforcement.
McCall and Cruz were both charged with battery on law enforcement; Van Hoose, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
