HOBART | A Hobart man paid off a $300 debt using a check from a closed bank account, police said.

Eduardo Loza, 45, was charged in Lake County court with check fraud.

Police were called to the End Zone Bar, 314 Main St., on Jan. 5 about an insufficient check for $300, court documents state.

A former bar employee had cashed a check from Loza at the End Zone, court documents state. The former employee said Loza had made the check out to him and he didn't know it was bad, court documents state.

When contacted by the bar's manager, Loza claimed he made a mistake and had written the check on the wrong account, court documents state.

The bar manager said Loza never showed up to the business and never repaid the money to the bar, court documents state.

Bank officials told police Loza's account had been closed.
