CROWN POINT | Prosecutors on Wednesday charged a Hobart couple in connection with the burglary of the home of Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey.
Charged with burglary and residential entry, both felonies, were the coroner's daughter, Amie Frey, 33, and the woman's boyfriend, David Storey, 32.
Charging documents state Merrilee Frey discovered items, including jewelry and a safe, missing from her Winfield home Monday morning.
Frey left home briefly but later returned to find her daughter in her bedroom, and Storey waiting in the driveway in an SUV although the couple were not permitted in the home, court documents state.
Merrilee Frey told police she recovered a bag containing jewelry from her daughter's pockets.
Amie Frey and Storey told police they entered the house looking for groceries, documents state.
