HOBART | A Crown Point man, who had been living with friends in Griffith, was killed in a head-on collision Wednesday morning, police said.
The Lake County Coroner's office identified the deceased as Andre Cash, 24.
Hobart police Detective Garrett Cizewski said Cash had enlisted with the U.S. Army and was going to report to duty in January.
Cash, whose drivers license lists a Pine Island Village apartment mailing address of Crown Point, had been living most recently with friends in Griffith, Cizewski said.
Cause of his death is listed as blunt force trauma, a coroner's spokesman said.
Hobart Police Lt. Matthew Claussen said the collision occurred at about 8:30 a.m. in the 8500 block of Ridge Road (U.S. 6) between a Buick Century being driving by Cash, which was westbound, and an eastbound GMC Envoy.
"It appears that for unknown reasons, the (Buick) crossed over the centerline into the eastbound lanes," Claussen said.
The driver and a child in the Envoy were transported by ambulance, Claussen said. He did not know the extent of their injuries.
Claussen said a third vehicle was involved in the collision and had minor damage. The driver was uninjured.
The crash forced the closure of Ridge Road between Union Street and Ind. 51. The road opened to motorists again just before noon.
