Dine on chili and corn bread with Hobart Arts League

Hobart Arts League is hosting an all-you-can-eat chili supper, complete with corn bread, beverage and dessert, from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the arts league building, 3850 Howard St., Hobart.

Mardi Gras party

St. Bridget Church, 107 Main St., Hobart, presents a Mardi Gras Dinner Party on Feb. 18. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner starts at 7.

Entertainment features Jason Yurechko performing his "Blues Brothers" comedy act at 8.

Donate to silent auction

The second annual Spring fundraiser for the Hobart Chamber of Commerce will be a "St. Patty's Day Bash" on March 16 at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza in Merrillville.

Chamber members are asking for donations of items for a silent auction. Proceeds will be used to fund the chamber's scholarship program. Call (219) 942- 5774 to have an item picked up.

Police newsletter offers tips

There are many public safety articles in the Hobart Police newsletter published by Lt. Jack Grennes.

It is mailed to many Hobart residents, and can be read online at Grennes70@Hobartpolice.net.

In this week's newsletter, he mentions the many garage thefts and car break-ins in Hobart. Remember to close and lock your garage door and parked vehicles at home.

As for phone calls and Internet messages, be careful about free trial offers. The first one is free , but many times you are automatically signed up for additional items that are not free.

Hearts of Hope

A crimson light twinkles and another life is saved. For a $5 donation, honor a special person in your life with a gift that will help fund trials and studies for heart disease.

There will be a tree lighting ceremony at St. Mary Medical Center's west patient lobby, 1500 S. Lake Park Ave., Hobart, at 4 p.m. Feb. 15. Those who have had their life touched by heart disease are invited to attend.

American Girl Doll Social 

Spend an afternoon with your favorite American Girl and her doll at the Annual Valentine Ice Cream Social from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the St. John Township Center, 1515 U.S. 30, Schererville.

There will be ice cream sundaes to make and Valentines to exchange. Each child should bring about 50 Valentines to exchange. Raffles include the newest American Girl doll and Lolo's beautiful clothes and accessories. Sponsored by the Lake Ridge RW Club's Scholarship Fundraiser Committee, there will be lots of surprises and lots to do.
