Hobart Lions Club is hosting a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran School, 891 Linda St. Pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, juice, milk and coffee will be served.

Available at the door, tickets are $6 for adults $4 from children 11 and younger. All proceeds benefit the Hobart Food Pantry and local Lions projects, as well as supporting Seeing Eye dogs and vision care for underprivileged children. Call Lions President Clarence Davis at (219) 942-4433.

This event is eligible to receive matching funds from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, so your attendance is doubly beneficial.

Kiwanis provide dictionaries

Hobart Kiwanis Club will present about 470 free dictionaries this month to all third-graders, their teachers and librarians at School City of Hobart schools and River Forest Community School Corp. Call Sharron Tarry at the Hobart Family YMCA, (219) 942-2183.

Get a coupon book

Carson’s Community Days are this Friday and Saturday and coupon books are for sale for $5 at Maria Reiner Senior Center, which receives 100 percent of proceeds. The coupon book includes a $10 coupon off on any $10 purchase. To purchase a book, contact MRC at (219) 947-1864 or pbroadaway@cityofhobart.org.

MRC is looking for a place to store its Summer Market Book Trailer. If you have a garage or pole barn available, please call.

Maria Reiner Center has received two grants. For the second year in a row, MRC will receive $66,888.94 from the Maria Reiner Fund administered by The Legacy Foundation. Also, $1,250 was approved by the Hobart Community Foundation. These funds will be used partially to fund a special Donor’s Wall at the MRC.

Dine with the Elks

Hobart Elks Lodge 1152, 3580 W. 61st Ave., invites the public to its dining room, open to all from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays and beginning 4:30 Fridays. They have a full menu, plus nightly specials.

The lodge is taking reservations for a Thanksgiving Day Buffet with roast turkey and roast beef, along with all the holiday trimmings, for $22 for adults and $10 for children 6 to 12. Call (219) 942-1152.

Looking for somewhere indoors to get in some exercise? Beginner Line Dance Lessons are offered at 9:00 a.m. Thursdays at Hobart Elks Lodge for $4 per class. Call Mary Ann at (219) 942-8922.

Enter oratorical contest

Friday is the deadline for students in grades 6 to 8 to enter the Middle School Oratory Contest sponsored by Lake County Right to Life. Contest will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at Highland branch of the Lake County Public Library, 2841 Jewett Ave. Winners are eligible for cash awards. Vet Fest is Thursday

Don’t forget that Thursday is Vet Fest 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at American Legion Post 54, 208 S. Linda St., Hobart. Tickets, at the door, are $8 per adult and $3 for children 9 and younger. Menu includes salad bar, spaghetti with meat sauce, dessert and coffee. Cash bar available. All proceeds support current military personnel, veterans and their families.
