HOBART | The Hobart Civil Service Fire Commission agreed Tuesday to continue to 6 p.m. Nov. 13 a disciplinary hearing for firefighter Lt. Mark Slonaker.
Fire Chief Brian Taylor said Slonaker is appealing disciplinary action that would result in his rank being demoted from lieutenant to firefighter.
The demotion is recommended because it's alleged that Slonaker publicly discredited another firefighter and the department, Taylor said.
Slonaker's attorney, Michael Deppe, said he was ready to proceed with evidence that will show the chief's actions are retaliation. Slonaker acted as a whistle-blower to reveal a sex scandal coverup, Deppe said.
