HOBART | The Hobart Civil Service Fire Commission will hold a disciplinary hearing for firefighter Lt. Mark Slonaker at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at City Hall, 414 Main St.
Fire Chief Brian Taylor said Slonaker is appealing disciplinary action that would result in his rank being demoted from lieutenant to firefighter.
The demotion is recommended because it's alleged that Slonaker publicly discredited another firefighter and the department, Taylor said.
Slonaker's attorney, Michael Deppe, said he's ready to proceed with evidence that will show the chief's actions are retaliation. Slonaker acted as a whistle-blower to reveal an alleged sex scandal coverup, Deppe said.
