Dr. Buffington explains importance of Child Internet Protection Act
HOBART | Child Internet Protection Act (C.I.P.A) is a program that is used all across the country, including the School City of Hobart.
Earlier this month, School City of Hobart Superintendent Dr. Peggy Buffington came to Bright Media Co. (BMC), which was created in Mrs. Steege's Joan Martin Elementary 5th grade, to talk to the members about C.I.P.A and why Hobart schools have it.
C.I.P.A blocks everything that you think that needs to be blocked because you don't know what the students look up. This protects students from negative social media.
"Many things are posted on the Internet," said Dr. Buffington. "C.I.P.A. protects students from inappropriate sites. Because schools have C.I.P.A. students are able to access the Internet at school."
Many students do not have Internet at home and school is the only time that they have it. After the presentation about C.I.P.A, Bright Media Company learned the value and challenges of the internet.
"You just got to find the right resources," added Buffington. "The future of social media is in our hands. If we use the social media responsibly, it can be a wonderful communication tool."
