HOBART | Four people shopped at Kohl's and attempted to make more than $800 in purchases using fraudulent identification, police said.

Articisse Teresa Brown, 23; Terence Lavare Lee, 35;  and Lester Robert Richardson Jr., 44, all of Gary and Ashley Renee Williams, 23, of Chicago, were charged with forgery, identity deception and attempted theft.

Police were contacted Wednesday by a loss prevention officer at Kohl's about suspicious shoppers, court documents state.

The officer said he saw two women selecting items with no apparent regard to price. The two women were then approached by two men, who also were selecting merchandise to purchase, court documents state.

One of the two men presented a drivers license to pay for the purchases and the clerk became suspicious because it didn't look legitimate.

Brown told police she had been advised by her fiance, Lee, to go to stores and "play a profile," by using someone else's identification to obtain items.
