HOBART | A Gary man, previously charged with armed robberies at gas stations in Merrillville and Hobart, is connected to a similar incident in Valparaiso, police said.
Jason Ballard, 19, was charged with robbery, a class B felony, through Porter Superior Court.
Ballard was identified as a possible suspect in an armed robbery at the Speedway on U.S. 30 in Valparaiso after surveillance photos of the incidents at Merrillville and Hobart had been distributed to the media, police said.
Detective James Gonzales had been assigned as the lead detective for the armed robberies that occurred in June 2011 at Speedway gas stations in all three communities.
Ballard admitted his part in the robberies, court documents state.
