MERRILLVILLE | A Gary man was arrested following a police chase that ended in a crash on Interstate 65 near 61st Avenue, police said.
Courtney Pratchett, 33, faces charges of dealing and possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.
The Lake County Sheriff's Department's tactical unit Thursday morning raided Pratchett's home in the 3700 block of Lincoln Street. Deputies found seven handguns, a rifle, 143 grams of marijuana, 7 grams of cocaine and cash but did not find Pratchett, police said. Officers around the county were told to look out for Pratchett's 2001 white Buick LaSabre.
A deputy spotted Pratchett on I-65 near 109th Avenue in Crown Point on Thursday morning. Pratchett drove off in the northbound lanes after seeing the officer, according to a sheriff's police news release.
Pratchett continued driving north to Fifth Avenue in Gary, according to the release. He then began heading south on I-65.
As Pratchett approached 61st Avenue on I-65, he tried to cross three lanes to get off the interstate when the car went off the road, deputies said. The car hit a pole and flipped over several times, causing Pratchett to be ejected.
He was treated and released Thursday from Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus in Merrillville, police said.
