LAKE STATION | A Gary man attempted to sexually assault a Lake Station woman at Columbus Park on June 3, police said.

Isiah Rodriguez, 19, has been charged through Lake County court with one count of attempted rape, two counts of criminal confinement, sexual battery and battery resulting in bodily injury.

A Lake Station woman told police she had been at Columbus Park with two men and Rodriguez whom she had just met, court documents state.

One of the men and Rodriguez left the park and returned later smelling like alcohol and slurring their speech, court documents state.

The woman said she was walking home at about 11 p.m. with the three men when Rodriguez, who was walking next to her, grabbed her by the wrist.

Rodriguez then held her down and attempted to pull down her pants, court documents state.

The woman screamed for help and one of her friends pulled Rodriguez off of her. The two men then began fighting.

The woman, who was bruised during the incident, made a police report on June 5.
