HOBART | A 19-year-old Gary man asked another man to burglarize the Hobart home of a friend, police said.

Paul D. Blankenship Jr. was charged Thursday with burglary and assisting a criminal through Lake County court.

A Hobart woman in the 3700 block of Mississippi Street called police on May 23 to report someone had broken into her house and removed several items including an iPod, video game system and flat screen television.

The woman told police she believed the items were taken by Blankenship, a friend of her daughter's, who had been in their home, court documents state.

Police questioned Blankenship, who said he did not break into the house and commit the burglary but put someone up to it and drove that person by the house to remove several items, court documents state.
