HOBART | A Gary man shoplifted 15 bottles of body wash from a Hobart store, then assaulted a manager, police said.

Lawrence Lamar Wright, 48, was charged Thursday with robbery, theft and criminal mischief through Lake Superior Court.

A manager at the Dollar General, 7844 E. 37th Ave., contacted police on Saturday after he was assaulted confronting a shoplifter, court documents state.

The manager said he locked the front doors of the store after seeing a man place several bottles of body wash into the front of his pants, court documents state.

When the manager attempted to stop the man from leaving, the manager was thrown to the ground twice, police said.

The store manager positively identified Wright, in a photographic display, as the person who had attacked him and stolen items from the store, court documents state.
