The long-awaited “Brews in the Barn” event begibs at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Those fortunate enough to have purchased tickets will gather at County Line Orchard, 200 N. County Line Road, Hobart, to sample more than 20 craft brews and an eclectic food buffet, while bidding on silent auction items.

Dale Polomchak, executive director of the Hobart Family YMCA, is grateful for the community response that has made this a sold-out event and he cannot wait to see everyone there. Proceeds will benefit the Hobart Family YMCA Changing Lives Campaign.

Country eating

Hobart Elks Lodge 1152, 3589 W. 61st Ave., invites the public to visit its dining room for a Country Buffet at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 31.

Menu includes ham and beans, country fried steak, BBQ ribs, southwestern fried chicken, fried okra, butter beans, mashed potatoes and gravy. Soup and salad bar is also included, along with apple pie for dessert, all for just $12.95.

Music for the evening features the Dunes Country Band. Reservations are requested, but not required, by calling (219) 942-1152.

Bring your Valentine

Also, Elks Lodge 1152 is planning its Valentine’s Day Dinner-Dance on Feb. 14. Dinner starts at 4:30 p.m. for $25 per person.

Menu includes a gourmet salad and choice of main entrée - prime rib, lake perch or stuffed chicken breast. The entree with be complemented by oven browned potatoes, asparagus with Hollandaise sauce, and strawberry cheesecake for dessert.

Dancing follows dinner from 6 to 10:30 p.m. with music provided by Wayne Para of 5 Star DJ. Reservations can be made by calling Edie at (219) 942-1152.

Play Crazy Bunco

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 54 is planning its first Crazy Bunco Party of the year from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 23 at American Legion Post 54, 208 S. Linda St., Hobart. Bring a friend to play bunco, enter the 50/50 raffle and sample some great snacks. A fun afternoon is promised.

Cost is $10 per person. All proceeds help our veterans and the men and women currently serving in the U.S. military. Call Linda at (219) 942-0149 or Louise at (219) 947-0337 to reserve a place at the table.

Garden club meets

The next meeting of the Hobart Garden Club begins at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13, the second Thursday of the month, in the Marie Reiner Social Room, Krull Tower, 1st Floor, 206 Main St., Hobart.
