HOBART | Bring the entire family to watch the Deep River Grinders play base ball following the original rules of 1858.  Free home games are played on Grinder Field across the river from the Grist Mill at Deep River County Park, 9410 Old Lincoln Highway. Upcoming home games, all at 2 p.m., will have the Grinders opposing the Vermilion Voles this Sunday, a June 29 match-up with the Long Nines, of Springfield Ill., and a July 13 game vs. the Lemont Quarrymen. Pack up the lawn chairs or blankets for seating and bring the youngsters. Ice cold sarsaparilla is for sale. Rules have the striker (batter) out if the ball is caught on the fly or on one bound, fair or foul. There are no called strikes and a foul ball does not count as a strike.
