HOBART | Two Gary teens were apprehended by police following a high-speed pursuit early Monday morning, police said.

The teens, a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old, were charged through Lake Juvenile Court with fleeing law enforcement and trespassing, Lt. David Grissom said.

The pursuit began in the 2000 block of U.S. 30 after police attempted to stop the teens who were driving in a red van with expired license plates.

Police followed the teens as they drove north on Mississippi Street. The teen driver, at one point lost control and hit a pole, Grissom said. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Highland.

One of the two teens was apprehended as he ran across Interstate 65 and the other teen was found hiding inside a sewage pipeline.

Both were taken into custody and transported to Lake County Juvenile Center.
