HOBART | City Planner A. J. Bytnar has resigned his position effective Jan. 4 to head back to school for an advanced degree.
"My last day will be the day after the Jan. 3 Plan Commission meeting. It's the right time," Bytnar said.
Bytnar, 30, started as Hobart's city planner on Aug. 18, 2009, replacing Sergio Mendoza.
"I've already spoken to the mayor about my plans and he has already allowed me to do some postings about the position through both the state and national American Planning Association," Bytnar said.
Mayor Brian Snedecor could not be reached for comment.
Bytnar said he will be attending Ball State University in Muncie with plans to earn a master's certificate in real estate development.
"I will start in January then be finished by the summer term," Bytnar said.
Bytnar said the steps he takes after completion of his master's will depend on the job market.
"Depending on the job market, I may go back and complete my MBA," Bytnar said.
Bytnar lives in the Miller section of Gary. He grew up in Portage.
