HOBART | A Hobart construction firm owner was paid $2,400 to repair a house damaged by lightning but failed to do the work, police said.
David L. Ferner, 47, of Hobart, is charged in Lake Superior Court with theft, attempted theft and home improvement fraud.
Ferner, the owner of Alligator Construction Co., was hired to do repairs on a home in the 2100 block of West Third Street in Hobart, court documents state.
The resident told police she wrote two checks for Ferner, one he was supposed to cash and one to destroy.
Ferner instead deposited and cashed the $2,423 check he was supposed to destroy, court documents state.
The resident told police Ferner never completed the repairs to her house as promised and she could not reach him to resolve the dispute, court documents state.
Ferner previously was charged in connection with work not completed in the 2700 block of West 65th Place, according to police reports.
