HOBART | Hobart police are advising women living in the central part of the city to be aware of a break-in and break-in attempt at houses within a few blocks of each other.

The attempted break-in was reported earlier this year in the 700 block of South Washington Street, police Detective James Gonzales said.

The resident woke up in the middle of the night and saw her kitchen window open and a man standing outside looking in, Gonzales said.

The second incident, reported to police Dec. 8, occurred in the 800 block of Seventh Place.

In that incident, the resident reported seeing a man standing inside her house near her bedroom door.

No items were taken and no one was injured in either of the incidents, Gonzales said.

Gonzales said he's worried that it may be the same man breaking into homes and that the crime could escalate.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gonzales at (219) 942-1125, ext. 1114.
