HOBART | Police are investigating two robberies, one outside a downtown restaurant and one at a store on West 37th Avenue.

Both robberies were reported to police Tuesday.

The first robbery was reported at 6:06 p.m. by a clerk at Family Dollar, 1045 W. 37th Ave., Sgt. Jeremy Ogden said.

A man came into the store, reached around the clerk and grabbed the money bin.

An undetermined amount of cash was taken, Ogden said.

The clerk described the suspect as a white or light-skinned Hispanic man, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches, with a mustache and possible goatee. He was wearing jeans, a dark blue hoodie and white tennis shoes.

The second robbery was reported by a 71-year-old woman who was pushed to the ground and had her purse stolen as she was heading to her car outside Lake Park restaurant, 7 E. Old Ridge Road.

The robbery was reported to police at 6:29 p.m., Ogden said.

She described the two men who robbed her as being in their teens or in their early 20s.
