HOBART | The city's Democratic precinct organization has thrown its weight behind incumbents running for re-election this spring.
John Brezik, the city chairman for Democrats, said his committeemen unanimously endorsed Sheriff John Buncich for re-election over his opponents, Richard Ligon and Oscar Martinez.
Brezik said the city organization also endorsed County Clerk Mike Brown for another term in office over challenger Josefina Magallanes and County Commissioner Roosevelt Allen Jr. for another term over challenger Lita M. Iatarola Filippo.
In the race for county assessor, Lake County Councilman Jerome Prince got the nod over Schererville Town Councilman Michael A. Troxell.
Brezik said the committeemen also endorsed U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky, County Prosecutor Bernard Carter, County Councilman Ted Bilski and all state legislators who are running unopposed in the May 6 Democratic primary.
In township races, the Hobart committeemen endorsed Ross Township Trustee Joe Shudick over challenger Ronald P. "Ron" Dudley. They endorsed Ross Township Assessor Angela M. Guernsey, who is running unopposed. They support Ronald Widing, Charles "Chuck" Stojakovich and Rich Kendera for the Ross Township Board.
They endorsed Hobart Township Trustee Tom Silich, who is running unopposed, for re-election and Randall J. Guernsey, who is running unopposed, for Hobart Township assessor.
They endorsed David "Dave" Scheeringa, Michael E. Ellis and Mike Hannigan for Hobart Township Board.
