HOBART | Northwest District Director Lori Higgins and James Pavelka, both members of the Hobart Garden Club, recently attended the Central Region Convention of the National Garden Clubs Inc., a seven-state area that includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Held in Middlebury, Ind., Pavelka was a voting delegate who confirmed the Central Region officers for 2013-15.
Higgins directed educational games and prepared gift baskets for NGC President Linda Nelson and Central Region Director Gerry Ford.
The Hobart club was recognized by Garden Clubs of Indiana President Sarah Nahmias for receiving the first state grant for planting trees.
Pavelka, just approved as an NGC Garden Studies instructor, served as a tour guide for convention attendees at Wellfield Botanical Gardens, several quilt gardens and Linton's Enchanted Garden Center.
Club members decorated a Christmas tree for the Nov. 8 auction at "Choc-O-Lots & Festival of Trees in Valparaiso, with proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross Disaster Fund.
