HOBART | A 19-year-old Hobart man and his 13-year-old girlfriend worked as a team in an attempted purse snatching, police said.
Charles K. Nafus III was charged in Lake Criminal Court with attempted robbery.
The 13-year-old girl, also from Hobart, will be charged in Lake Juvenile Court, police said.
A 56-year-old Hobart woman told police she was leaving Family Express, 2 E. Old Ridge Road, on Dec. 16 when a girl asked her for money, court documents state.
When the woman told her no, the girl grabbed her purse and tried to pull it away from her, court documents state. The woman fell backward.
She yelled for help and the girl, accompanied by a man, fled the area, police said.
Investigators learned the two involved in the attempted purse snatching were Nafus and the 13-year-old girl and arrested them, police said.
The girl, who police didn't identify, said she was coached by Nafus on what to do before the purse snatching incident, police said.
He told her how to pick out a victim and how to commit the robbery, court documents state.
