HOBART | A Hobart man wrecked a rental car he'd stolen and also stole a checkbook and Bible from two parked cars, police said.
Curtis Lyda, 20, was charged in Lake County court with one count auto theft, two counts theft and one count failure to stop after an accident resulting in damage to an unattended vehicle.
Police Detective David Evans was called Feb. 2 to the 3900 block of West 49th Avenue in connection with a damaged 2012 Chevy Traverse reported stolen by a rental company, court documents state.
No one was inside the car, but police followed footprints in the snow that led to Lyda's house, court documents state.
Located in Lyda's possession were other items reported stolen from two parked cars, including a checkbook and a Bible, court documents state.
