HOBART | An 18-year-old Hobart man stole a bottle of vodka and hit a security guard as he was fleeing from Walmart, police said.
Antonio Deshawn Lee Walton-Rogers was charged with conversion and battery in Lake County court.
Police were called to Walmart, 2936 E. 79th Ave., on Feb. 3 in connection with a shoplifting suspect who had struck a security guard, court documents state.
While fleeing from the store, the suspect dropped the liquor bottle and his cellphone, court documents state.
Police connected the cellphone to the mother of Walton-Rogers. She told police her son had told her he lost it at a bowling alley, court documents state.
The security guard later identified Walton-Rogers as the individual who fled from Walmart and who struck him with a closed fist, court documents state.
