HOBART | A 46-year-old Hobart man slapped a relative then held a knife to her throat, police said.

Jorge Villagran-Castro was charged Tuesday through Lake Criminal Court with criminal confinement, domestic battery and interference with the reporting of a crime.

Police were called to a house on Gill Street on Aug. 10 by a woman who told them Villagran-Castro had battered her during an argument.

The woman said Villagran-Castro slapped her, grabbed her by her hair, threw her to the floor and put a knife to her throat, court documents state.

She said she attempted to call 911 on her cellphone but Villagran-Castro grabbed it and smashed it to the floor.

The woman left her two young children in the house and ran to a neighbor's house to call police.
