HOBART | A Hobart man was killed in a fire at his residence Sunday morning.

Eric Considine, 31, died after being taken to St. Mary Medical Center, according to a news release from the Lake County coroner's office. He had no visible injuries and the cause of death is pending.

Hobart Fire Chief Brian Taylor said fire units were dispatched about 5:25 a.m. to a structure fire at a one-story home in the 100 block of East Rand Street. There were flames and smoke coming from the house when firefighters arrived.

On initial search of the home, fire crews discovered Considine unresponsive and not breathing in the kitchen.

Taylor said the initial cause of the fire is confirmed accidental. No smoke detectors were found in the home.
