HOBART | A 1971-era McDonald's on Ridge Road in Hobart will be demolished next spring and a new restaurant will be built in its place, attorney David Austgen said.
The Plan Commission on Thursday approved the proposed demolition and reconstruction of the McDonald's restaurant at 7915 E. Ridge Road.
Austgen, who represents McDonald's Real Estate Co., said the new 5,200-square-foot McDonald's will be state of the art.
In addition, the new McDonald's will be larger than the current 4,500-square-foot restaurant and on a larger parcel of property.
Traffic flow, with wider curb cuts approved by planners, will be improved greatly, Austgen said.
"It's kind of a redevelopment replan of a long-standing development," Austgen said.
Austgen thanked officials and city employees for working with him on plans, including drainage, lighting and other requirements, over a two- to three-year period.
"We've worked through a lot of items to get here," Austgen said.
Plan Commission member John Brezik thanked Austgen and his group for their cooperation.
"My compliments to all of you. It's coming to fruition. ... The project has taken a long time, but it will be worth the effort," Brezik said.
In related action, the Plan Commission approved a request by Austgen for placement of an off-site advertising sign on a multiuser pylon sign.
The sign will be about 200 feet south of the southwest corner of Ind. 51 and Ridge Road.
