Help the Hobart Police Department celebrate National Night Out – a great way to meet your neighbors, local police and community leaders - from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 6 at the City of Hobart Community Pool, 400 W. 10th St.
The pool will be open free to swimmers, and free hot dogs and soft drinks will be served. Featured activities include K-9 and S.W.A.T. Unit Demonstrations, Child Identification Cards, child seat inspections, and a 50/50 raffle.
On display will be police equipment, patrol cars, mountain bikes, ATV’s, D.A.R.E. Program custom golf cart and fire trucks. Information will be available on how to start a Neighborhood Watch Program, Home & Personal Safety, and the Hobart Police Newsletter.

The Hobart Police Department recently went through some administrative restructuring and added more officers to Patrol Services, put some new police vehicles on the street and a new police dog into the program, and hired two new officers to add additional help to Patrol Services.
A ribbon cutting for Annabelle's, 441 Third St., will be held at 1:30 p.m. today.
Razor's Edge, 5144 E. U.S. 30, Merrillville, will celebrate its first anniversary from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Foundation awards grants
The Hobart Community Foundation, which sponsors the Mama Mia Spaghetti Dinner and the Dam Duck Race, recently awarded grants to the following organizations: Special Events Committee, Hobart Police Department Canine Unit, Hobart Family Y, Hobart Arts League, Friends of Robinson Lake, Hobart Parks Department and the Hobart Garden Club.
Now, the foundation is in full swing selling Dam Duck Race tickets. They can be purchased from any foundation member, in front of the Hobart Post Office on Saturday mornings, and at the Summer Market on the Lake every Thursday.

Vocalist in the park
The Hobart City Improvement Committee concert at 7 p.m. Thursday features Jim Bulanda with a tribute to vocalists of the 1940’s-80’s. On July 25, Joe Sibley will perform a Kenny Rogers Tribute. Concerts are held in the Revelli Bandshell at Festival Park, 111 E. Old Ridge Road.
