HOBART | A boat race featuring homemade cardboard creations is new at the city's Lakefront Festival, Special Events Coordinator Raeann Trakas said.
The Dam Duck Tape and Cardboard Boat Regatta is at 3 p.m. Saturday at the boat dock behind Cagney's restaurant, Trakas said.
Prizes will be awarded in categories of grand prize, most creative and the Titanic, or the boat that sinks the fastest.
The 22nd annual Lakefront Festival will run Thursday through Sunday at Festival Park, 111 E. Old Ridge Road.
The four-day festival includes food vendors, nightly live entertainment, a beer garden, and an arts and craft area.
Anderson Amusements carnival rides also will be available for children.
Festival hours are 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday, 4 to 11 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
The highlight of the event each year is the Dam Duck Race, which will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Lou Kuchta Memorial Bridge.
Other activities will include the Jaycees beer garden from 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday; the Lion's steak fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday; and the Elks spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
The Jaycees also will sponsor a fishing derby from 8 to 10 a.m. and a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the community center.
Nightly entertainment will include the Allen Wronko Band on Thursday; the Crawpuppies Dusk-Laser Light Show on Friday; the Nawty Dusk-Laser Light Show on Saturday and the Difference on Sunday.
