Hobart schools host Spring Fest fundraiser Friday

School City of Hobart will hold its annual Spring Fest at Hobart High School, 2211 E. 10th St., starting at 5 p.m. Friday. All proceeds go to support early education programs.

There will be activities for senior citizens two hours before the 5 p.m. opening. Cost for seniors is $10, which includes activities and a fish dinner. Cost for the fish dinner alone is $8.

Hobart High alumni host dance

“Dancing Thru The Decades” will be held Saturday at Rosser Hall, 1421 W. 37th Ave., Hobart. Sponsored by the Hobart High School Alumni Association, tickets are $20 per single and $35 per couple and are available at Hobart High School, School City of Hobart Administration Office, or at the door.

Tickets include a sandwich and beverage. A cash bar will be available. Doors open at 7 p.m., with dancing from 8 to 11. All proceeds will be used for scholarships.

Chamber to present awards

Hobart Chamber of Commerce will host its awards program to recognize businesses and organizations in Hobart that have made extraordinary contributions during the past year.

The dinner will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. April 12 at the Festival Park Community Center, 111 E. Old Ridge Road. Tickets are $45 and seating is limited, so RSVP by March 29 to the chamber at (219) 942-5774.

Looking for donations

Volunteers are interested in clearing some of trees and doing a yearly burn of brush at the Stewart Mattix Prairie located next to George Earle Elementary School, 400 N. Wilson St., Hobart, so that the prairie can be viewed from the school.

Sandy O’Brien is working with a group and has some volunteers and a company that will cut trees and brush to clear the way. More volunteers and donations are needed.

Last year, a group of kindergartners from George Earle school visited to see some of the many native plants and smell the wild strawberries so plentiful there. To learn more, contact Sandy at (219) 743-0679 or ecorealm@msn.com.

Apply for a grant

Hobart Community Foundation is awarding grants to worthy causes this year. March 31 is the deadline to apply for a grants.

Sell at summer market

Applications are being accepted for Hobart’s Summer Market on the Lake, sponsored by the City of Hobart Special Events office.

The market will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. every Thursday, June 6 through Sept. 26, in Festival Park, 111 E. Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Applications and rules are available at www.cityofhobart.org and in the Special Events office at 414 Main St.

Photo exhibit deadline

“Captured in Time” is the very first juried photography exhibit hosted by the Hobart Arts League, 3850 Howard St., Hobart.

Open only to photographers, download the prospectus at www.hobartarts.com. Entry deadline is April 15, and the exhibit will be open from May 5 to 31.
