HOBART | The city is one of six entities in Indiana selected by the Office of Community and Rural Affairs and the Indiana Office of Tourism Development to receive a Place Based Investment Fund grant.

Hobart will use its $50,000 grant for its project to transform the Brickie Bowl into a facility to host events and provide a space for fitness activities for senior citizens.

Mayor Brian Snedecor could not be reached Wednesday for comment about the grant.

The first phase of the project includes repairing the current cement/concrete seating and railing in the Brickie Bowl, according to a project summary.

The stadium can be used for events after that work is finished.

Hobart is collaborating with the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority on the project.

Last year, the Hobart City Council approved ownership transfer of the Brickie Bowl from the School City of Hobart to the city.

The school corporation, in exchange, obtained the city-owned property behind Fire Station No. 1, adjacent to Joan Martin Elementary School on 10th Street.
