Hobart Tri Kappa's annual luncheon is set for 11:30 a.m. Nov. 3  at Avalon Manor, 3550 E. U.S. 30, Hobart. The sorority invites the whole family to enjoy a delicious lunch while listening to the widely-acclaimed University of Notre Dame Glee Club a cappella group, The Undertones, present a variety of favorites songs from past decades.

The event will include the Bountiful Baskets raffle, prizes and drawings. All proceeds will benefit the Hobart Food Pantry, The Giving Tree, scholarship funds and various other local charities. Select local vendors will be present. Complimentary beer tasting is sponsored by Four Horsemen Brewing Company.

U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky, D-Merrillville, will share the importance of charitable organizations in our communities.

Tickets are available through Oct. 31 at a cost of $35 for adults and $20 for children 11 and younger. Contact Hobart Chamber of Commerce at (219) 942-5774 or Juli Whiteman at (219) 741-5854.

A crowd of more than 300 “Senior Teens” welcomed national radio legend Dick Biondi to the Ultimate Sock Hop Saturday night at the Hobart Elks Lodge. The sell-out crowd rocked the night away to the tunes of the ‘50s and ’60s spun by Master Blaster of the 50’s Jim Dandy.

Garden growing

Hobart Garden Club at its annual meeting Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Maria Reiner Center, 705 E. Fourth St., will present a special award to an outstanding youth for this summer’s work.

HGC also received a grant from the Hobart Community Foundation that helped purchase two, 8’ Colorado Blue Spruce trees delivered and planted by Remus Farms of Hobart. A formal dedication will be announced soon.
