HOBART | A 49-year-old Hobart woman set her own jail cell on fire, causing $300 in damages, police said.

Sherry Rene Lane was charged in Lake County court with arson and criminal recklessness.

Police were dispatched to the Hobart City Jail on June 18 to investigate a fire in one of the cells, court documents state.

When police arrived, a woman identified as Lane said she couldn't breathe because of the amount of smoke in her pod area.

The officer spotted a small fire on the floor, where toilet paper and what appeared to be women's underwear were burning.

Lane gave the officer a Bic lighter that she had placed in her bra, court documents state.

Lane was being held in jail on a charge of public intoxication and possible possession of a controlled substance, police said.
